The good life

“… Live in his presence in holy reverence, follow the road he sets out for you, service God, your God, with everything you have in you, obey the commandments and regulations of God… live a good life.”  Deuteronomy 10:12-13, The Message

There it is, the key to a good life: 

Follow God and His commands.

 

If you live by my decrees and obediently keep my commandments, I will...

"If you live by my decrees and obediently keep my commandments, I will send rain in their seasons, the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit... you will have more than enough to eat and will safe and secure in your land.  I will make the country a place of peace - you'll be able to sleep at night without fear; I'll get rid of wild beasts; I'll eliminate war.  You'll chase out your enemies and defeat them... I'll give you my full attention: I'll make sure you prosper, make sure you grow in numbers, and keep my covenant with you in good working order... I'll set up my residence in your neighborhood; I won't avoid or shun you; I'll stroll through your streets.  I'll be your God; you'll be my people..." Leviticus 26:3-13, The Message

WOW - all this and all we have to do is be the kind of people that God wants us to be: loving, kind, honest, peaceful, hard-working, loyal, able, selfless, humble, giving, and devoted to Him.  My goodness, God is easy - we, the people, have really gone and made this life almost impossible.  Why?  Well, whatever our reasons, change begins with you and me.  So, one person at a time: it's time to get our lives back and live in freedom - live the way that God intended us to live in the first place.

Total victory

“And what this love consists in is this: that we love and walk in accordance with and guided by His commandments (His orders, ordinances, precepts, teaching)…” II John 6

A life living in love and following the commands of Christ is a life living in God – a life living in total victory.

The man whom the Lord regards.

“But this the man to whom I will look and have regard: he who is humble and of a broken or wounded spirit, and who trembles at My word and reveres my commandments.” Isaiah 66:2 AMP

Are you, (or have you ever been), humiliated, hurt, or wounded – physically and/or mentally? Have you cried out to God for help, for answers, for insight, for healing, for your life? Do you love God and His Word?  If so, then this verse is talking directly to you!  He sees you, He loves you, He is making a way for you, He is healing you, and He is carrying you every step of your life.  Yes, He loves you, and whatever your pain, whatever your fear, whatever your worry – He’s got it under control, and your victory will soon shine through for you to experience in the whole.

Life or death?

“Keep my commandments and live…” Proverbs 7:2

Or to put it another way: Don’t keep God’s commands and die…! 

Hmmm… yep! I’m definitely going with the former – you?

Boundaries and borders in our lives; do you have them?

Do you have boundaries and borders in your life?  Do you truly know that you need them?  Want to know how to get some?  Then, here is the answer:

"And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments... " Deuteronomy 28:1

Want to know what will happen if you take heed to the verse above?  Well, here is a glimpse:

"...the Lord your God will set you high above the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord... Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.  Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock.  Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out." 

Deuteronomy 28:2-6

And that's just the beginning; finish reading through to verse 68 and focus on the amazing blessings that God will give you if you follow His command: 

Faithfully obey, and do all His commandments.

God’s commandments are not just commands that we have to memorize, yet continue to live the defeated lives we live. No, God’s commands are for us to live out, to base the foundation of who we are upon.  His commands make us better, stronger, joyful, peaceful and content, prosperous, loving, kinder, humble, and wise.  His commands make us stand outside the crowd and become blessings to many others. 

God’s commands aren’t something to be fearful of, they are something to embrace, so let’s embrace them and do what He is telling us to do!

Live the good life – live for God.
